Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece

Thank you so much for having this site, I got so many great ideas! I have made the watermelon baby carriage this past weekend and it was a total hit! I also made a mini hot air balloon decoration. It was VERY VERY simple to make. I have included a photo showing the finished product. All you do is run ribbon up and over the balloon in an x pattern. I used a piece of clear tape to hold it in place on the top of the balloon and where each piece of ribbon met the sides of the basket below and you're done! It was a simple way to add a nice decoration. I used the basket below to hold my favors for the guests but you can use it for anything you desire.

Hot Air Balloon Centerpiece

I made a really beautiful hot air balloon centerpiece for my sisters' shower! It came out even better than the picture in the magazine; so here's how I did it. First I got a clay flower pot (8 inch diameter) and four wooden dowels (18 inches long and about 1/4 inch round) I wrapped the dowels ribbon and used duct tape to tape the bottom on the dowels to the inside rim of the flower pot. I taped them about half way down the inside of the flower pot so they would be sturdy. Next, using a baby receiving blanket I wrapped the flower pot by placing it on top of the blanket and folding the corners of the blanket into the top of the flower pot. Next I tied one large safety pin into the top of each dowel and I tied them as tightly as I could so they would be able to hold the "balloon". In the magazine I got this idea from it said to use a 10 inch Styrofoam ball, so I went to a craft store and spent $17 dollars on one only to throw it away! It was too small and didn't look right at all, instead I used a globe! I guess if you don't have a globe that you want to take apart you could use a beach ball or one of those punching balloons, anything that is fairly light weight and about 20 inches in diameter. I wrapped the globe in a second receiving blanket and pushed the safety pins through the blanket (If you decided to use a beach ball or a punching balloon make sure the pins only go through the blanket and don't pop the ball or the balloon!!) I used fake flowers and small mesh butterflies to decorate the dowels and to hide the safety pins on the top. I used ribbon to tie around the "basket" and the "balloon". Last I filled the flower pot with small gifts and took lots of pictures, it came out beautiful!!
