Restaurant Baby Showers

I am hosting a baby shower at a restaurant is it rude to ask the guests to pay for their meals?? How should I word that in the invite???

Our Answer:

Hi Ireland,

Thank you for your question. Restaurants do have a few pros and cons to hosting a baby shower. With a restaurant location, you do not have to worry about the preparing the food or cleaning up, which is a HUGE plus. Depending on the restaurant, you also might not have to worry about purchasing centerpieces or decorations.

On the downside, you are responsible to pay for the food as the hostess. To help save money, you can look into arranging for a set menu with the restaurant to ensure your costs are set for each guest.

If your budget does not allow you to pay for your guest's meals at the restaurant, another option could be hosting the baby shower at a house, where your costs are greatly reduced.

I hope that helps. Good luck with planning the baby shower!

In today's time, it is OK to pay for your meal at a restaurant baby shower.

I disagree and think that it is perfectly fine to ask people to pay for their own food, especially if it is during an eating hour. We host baby showers ALL the time at places like Le Madeline's and our friends RAVE about how awesome the showers are and nobody has ever complained about spending a few bucks on brunch. We generally word the invites with a sincere twist so that they understand that they will be responsible for the meal purchase if they choose to eat however we make it clear that cake and special treats will be served after the shower.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!

I recently heard of people asking for money at the end of their child's birthday party...also just as ridiculous, and so tacky!! Please, have a simple party at home, serve pasta and salad, and save yourself the embarrassment of asking guests to pay!! You'll have more fun too!!

Maybe you could have it at home, but order takeout from that restaurant? I've had several parties where I ordered a few platters from Chili's specifically, and it's always gone over REALLY well, and it as surprisingly not that expensive!
