Pink Softball Baby Shower Cake
This softball baby shower cake is a very unique and downright adorable! I love all the little details Jen used to make the cake like the silver bat and the ruffled dress with bloomers. The families name on the bat is...ADORABLE!! Thank you for sharing your cake with us Jen! It is a fabulous idea!
Jen's Comments:
I made this cake for a family friend who is not the girly girl type so it was a lot of fun to go crazy with pink!
It just didn't feel right with all the flowers and pink so I decided to add the mommy-to-be's love of softball into the cake!
I can't remember exactly what flavor we used on this cake...I believe it was dark chocolate with a homemade peanut butter buttercream (recipe is on the Wilton website).
I used the Wilton class recipe for the icing, which I tinted pink with Wilton rose coloring. On the top of the cake I made a bed of drop flowers out of tinted butter cream in violet and rose. I made fondant daisies with Wilton fondant and cutters in large, medium and small size.
I colored them with pearl dust in pink, purple and silver. I made the bat out of white fondant and used silver pearl dust to color it. The wrap on the bat was made with the pink fondant I used for the babies dress and the last name of the family is piped in buttercream.
For the baby I tinted fondant with copper color for the body. I covered the upper body in White and made puff sleeves. I attached the arms under the sleeves. I made a double skirt the top in pink and underneath in white. I finished the "uniform" off by piping pink ruffles on the sleeves and waist line and giving her jersey number one since she will be the first girl in the family.
I made a hat out of pink fondant to put on her. I finished the cake with pink and lavender drop flowers and mint colored leaves on the top and bottom borders. I also used pink fondant daisies along the lower border.
